Originally from Dubai and now residing in Canada, DJ Salman is internationally known for his monthly 2 hour long international radio-show “TRANCE-Gendered”, which features the absolute latest and hottest in uplifting and melodic trance music (the show is also available as a free podcast). This Calgary based DJ/Producer has been building a name for himself in the electronic music community and I’ve assisted him by providing him with a logo, website, online ads & photography services.

The letter ‘S’ in the logo/word mark is composed of the two Arabic letters, D and J. The artist’s name is DJ Salman which, when pronounced, has emphasis on the M and N. The traditional Arabic dots are on these letters to reinforce that, as well as emphasize the artist’s cultural background. The logo part features a typical Trance DJ pose in front of a large sound wave.

The website design was kept very clean and modern while again maintaining a certain sense of his cultural background. DJ Salman is all about sharing his passion & music with the community. It therefore seemed natural to have a strong focus on social media. The website also features a blog and a music player. Because the entire website was build on a Wordpress platform, Salman is able to perform all updates himself (even when on the road).

The Canoe Sprint World Championships is the biggest deal in paddling, and in 2009 it went down in Halifax. The client needed a campaign that would score points beyond sports fans; they wanted to intrigue anyone with a pulse. The concept Trampoline Branding landed on was inspired by the power, sexiness and athleticism of the paddlers — and was communicated by comparing them to high-performance automobiles.

The website is designed to fit that same overall feel by using metal & glass textures throughout. The site is build on the Wordpress platform using a custom template built from scratch. The client is able to administer every part of the site. The site incorporates event information, race results, a live video feed, blogs from the organizers & international athletes, a live twitter feed and a photo gallery. The photo gallery is also accessible through a custom flash app built into the main banner. A custom flash countdown timer was also built and prominently featured on the website.

Geoff D’Eon approached me to design an animated version of the logo for his new business venture Pilot Light Productions. A static logo was developed as a freelance project by one of my colleagues (Crystal Oicle) at Trampoline. The static version would do fine for print work, but given the nature of Geoff’s business, there was a need for an animated version of the logo that could be used on television and on the web. The animated version closely resembles the look of a real burning pilot light, while also adhering to the overall shape, look and feel of the static logo.

Seascape Kayak Tours Inc. was established in 1994 and is the original sea kayak tour operator in St. Andrews and on Deer Island, New Brunswick, Canada. Seascape is extremely environmentally focused and wanted to convey that message throughout their website. Their old website was very cluttered and they specifically requested to keep the new design straight forward, clean, and namely accessible and user friendly. I collaborated on both website and logo design with another designer located in the USA, the new logo needed to be instantly recognizable for previous customers in order to maintain brand recognition.

The Mariner’s Table is a fine-dining restaurant located in Chance Harbour, New Brunswick. The logo was designed, in order to brand an identity for the new restaurant. The logo portrays an Atlantic Canadian tone, without too much of a ‘fish & chips’ feel maintaining the fine-dining quality.

Designed and constructed website in conjunction with the restaurant logo. The site has a clean look, emphasizing the food visuals to wet the appetite. The warm yellow and red colour scheme has been carefully chosen, because these colours stimulate the appetite. The website runs on an ASP.Net backend and makes use of a masterpage to get a consistent look throughout the website. The menu is constructed by combining Spry with an ASP.Net sitemap file. Strict form validation occurs on the server side using ASP.Net validators.

Tailored original logo and web design, while designing and building a customized Content Management System (CMS) specifically for this client, so that future website maintenance is as simple as possible. Designed and constructed the website, which runs on a PHP backend that interfaces with a mySQL database.

The design also makes use of object oriented coding principles which results in reusable pieces of code. These are used, for example, to connect to the database and to provide a consistent look throughout the website. The CMS is built to be extremely robust and performs very strict server side form validation.

Logo and word mark for a new software product developed by the National Research Council, the Broadband Video Conference Answering Machine (has since been changed to Broadband Video Camera). The logo design is a combination of a high definition camera and an answering machine. This image does not mirror the actual device, but translates better to the audience with common, relatable renderings. The chosen colours are the NRC institution colours.
